My Educational Philosophy
“Life is a journey; not a destination” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am humbled, honored, and inspired by the opportunity to continue my life journey with the bright, young minds of today and tomorrow.  As a teacher, I believe that the greatest resource for learning lies in the minds and hearts of my students.  I draw upon their infinitely abundant and rich veins of insight each and every day in our classroom.

As an educator, I strive to help each student learn how to collaborate with others, yet think independently, and actively give voice to his or her uniquely valuable thoughts.  To achieve these educational goals I work tirelessly to help my students master the crafts of reading well, writing well, speaking effectively, listening wholeheartedly, and thinking critically. Everything that occurs in our classroom is done with the focus and purpose of giving power to the voice of my students.

I cultivate a community where students may share their ideas and feelings devoid of judgment or scrutiny.  Through the safe and honest exchange, we transform the classroom into a sea of respect, where all may sail unfettered on powerful waves of acceptance.

Every single student can succeed.  It is my responsibility to help each student know that I believe in his or her ability to thrive in and beyond our classroom.  I communicate this belief through words and actions each day.  When my students know that I genuinely believe in them, they are more likely to believe in themselves, reach their full potential, and ultimately, change the world.

Their life is a journey; their destination is excellence.

To my students: THANK YOU.  I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow with you.  You give profound meaning to my life journey.

To parents and colleagues: I appreciate your support, wisdom, and collaboration as we help guide our most valuable resource—today’s youth.

They are our inspiration at this very moment, and our hope for tomorrow.
